We live. We watch. We learn! I’ve had a recent dose of learning about the World Wrestling Entertainment industry. I’ve decided to call it an industry after thinking about how much money changes hands when you buy a ticket to watch this Big Event in person.

Four of my grandsons have been interested in wrestling since they were young boys. They are now young men. But no matter, because I also have two much younger grandsons, Sam and Will, who are likewise interested in wrestling, especially the WWE. The boys were thrilled when their dad took them to see WWE live in Tulsa one recent Monday night. It was broadcast live on the USA channel. I watched it from my comfy chair. The boys’ older sister Molly and her boyfriend accompanied them to watch the matches. It’s a fact that women are now into wrestling.

I remember when wrestling was Men Only. But that has all changed. Whether you approve or not, little girls now get to wrestle, and so do big girls.
* * * * * * * * * * * *
Several years ago the so-called weaker sex decided that if it’s good enough for the guys, it’s good enough for the gals! Now some of these beauties have won the right to walk into the ring wearing strength, power and glamour and little else.

They are well muscled, but glamorous, know how to move their bodies and watching them adds to the appeal of those who watch, especially males.
* * * * * * * * * * * *
My learning observation of WWE is that to earn the right to be a member, the male wrestler needs to be somewhat easy on the eyes of the fans, which includes being a hulk of bulging muscles, a much tattooed body, knowing how to shoot mean and evil looks at his opponent as well as being able to talk on a mic, using acceptable grammar, yet telling it as it is. Most are very good at all of this. Or they wouldn’t be there. Oh yes! They must have a great knowledge of wrestling. That fits some place into the whole picture.

What they choose to wear when they wrestle is interesting. Have you noticed that men, in most any big time sport, wear advertisements of a brand name or logo, printed on the seat of whatever they have chosen to wear to cover their backsides?
* * * * * * * * * * * *
It’s not that I make a habit of staring at their backsides. It’s merely my curious mind at work. I always wonder who would pay money to advertise in this manner? To find out I have to look to see. Right?
* * * * * * * * * * * *
The kind of wrestling you see in the WWE is much different from the wrestling I watched my four older grandsons do when they were in highschool.
* * * * * * * * * * * *
In the first place, no one has told me so, but I think that much of the WWE wrestling has been planned in advance. These guys are experts at knowing how to moan and groan just as they are at how to get out of treacherous looking holds and put their opponents into the same holds. They put on a good show. And sometimes they do become injured.

When you think about it, why do people get so worked up and excited at any sporting events? Think about it. Most sports make little sense. We get excited when we watch someone tryng to make a ball go through a hoop, or trying to hit a ball with a stick, or tucking an odd shaped ball under an arm and, trying to run to the end of the playing field before someone catches him and brings him down on the ground.
* * * * * * * * * * * * *
Watching the WWE, we get excited as we watch a wrestler trying to make a pretzel out of his opponent’s body. Or pick him up and throw him down – splat! on the floor.
* * * * * * * * * * * * *
Maybe we like to watch this because it allows us to holler, scream, clap, stomp, do whatever for a while, getting rid of lots of pent up feelings and energy. Naturally, we also enjoy observing the outstanding abilities of the participants who often take a trouncing as they meet the opposition.
* * * * * * * * * * * * *
To sum it up, you can say that the promoters are usually very happy when they count the money people have paid to see the fights, the wrestlers are very happy that people have paid the money to watch them, and the people are happy that they got to see such famous guys as Shamus, Cena, Jerico, Edge, Orton, Morrison, Nexus and many others.

Oh! I forgot! To prove that you were there in person to see the wrestlers in person, you, while there in person, and for only a measly $25, can purchase a t-shirt with their pictures on it!
